About Sigung Dan Inosanto
Dan Inosanto is perhaps best known in the martial arts world as the person chosen by Bruce Lee to carry on his legacy of Jeet Kune Do when he (Lee) left the United States and returned to Hong Kong in 1970.
Prior to that the dynamic duo had operated what came to be known as “The Chinatown School” in Los Angeles.
Inosanto and Lee had meet years earlier when Bruce Lee was an invited guest of Inosanto’s Kempo Karate instructor Ed Parker at the Long Beach Internationals karate tournament.
The story goes that Inosanto’s insatiable curiosity about martial arts led to an impromptu training session wherein according to him, “Everything I tried he just countered seemingly without much effort!”
At the time Bruce Lee was living in Oakland, California. After the tournament he spent a couple weeks in Los Angeles and this afforded Inosanto the opportunity to train more and appear in a few demonstrations as Bruce Lee’s “fall guy”.
Inosanto says it was a great learning experience being on the receiving end of Bruce Lee’s techniques, so much so that after Lee’s departure back to Oakland, Inosanto decided to make the periodic trek to Northern California to continue his training with Bruce Lee.
